This is an updated post from the October 4th blog entry I put up. A few tiny things have changed, so please read this again!
It's strange to say it that way after all this time, but the simple reality is, Adrian's Undead Diary is in a huge way, just beginning again after over three years.
I've been working with publishing companies for almost two years now on bringing AUD into print, and while it has been an educational process, filled with great opportunity, I have decided to go my own way.
The Adrian's Undead Diary series is headed to print under my own banner. I am self publishing AUD. Similar to The Wrath of the Orphans, you will be able to buy the AUD books in print through Amazon.com, Createspace.com, and some book stores. You'll also be able to pick them up on the Kindle.
This is not a free process, and I don't want to half ass it either. I've been saving my pennies, hoarding my subscriber payments, and ferreting away all the money from shirt and sticker sales. But alas, cover art and professional editing is far, far from free. Marketing and shipping is also far from free. Something else to consider is that AUD is EIGHT BOOKS LONG. Not one novel, but eight. Eight cover arts, eight ISBNs, 8 new copyright fees, 8 new barcodes, 8 new banner ads for site marketing, blah fucking blah blah.
Why not do a pre-order to raise money? Great question. There's a single, simple answer. I NEED you to buy these books in the retail world, not directly from me. Amazon and Createspace track sales, and sales push you into the higher listing, and if I sell books directly via pre-order, AUD won't look nearly as desirable. I'd make money, yes, but in the long run a pre-order would hurt me.
To help raise funds, I considered Kickstarter, but that's a huge bitch, and managing a massive Kickstarter campaign isn't in my free time schedule, so I've decided to do a smaller fundraiser to help cover the costs of making AUD a physical reality. Hundreds of you have begged me to get AUD into print, so now I'm asking you to put a little bit of money where your mouth is.
I've come up with two things you can do to help me raise money to cover the series launch:
Book Four of the AUD series is entitled The Return, and in the credits of book four, I'm going to put every single person's name who helped with this fundraiser. You will, for all time, become official residents of Hall E. The cost to get your name in the book, and help me afford the cost of art and whatnot is just $10.03. Click on this button to snap up your chance. If your paypal name isn't the name you want credited, or if you want to give someone else the gift of their name in book four, please put the name you want in the notes on your payment.
If just getting your name in the book doesn't interest you, or you want something more tangible to go along with your parting of money, I am selling a small number of direct, signed copies of The Wrath of the Orphans. Buy one of these books, and I'll sign it, ship it to you, AND you'll get your name in Book Four. Just remember to rate and review Wrath on Amazon or Goodreads, because that's almost more important than buying the book itself. Here's a link to buy the book directly from me if you live in the United States or Canada: ($15.00)
Here's a link to buy a signed book if you live Outside the United States: ($28.00 don't blame me for the price. The USPS wants $18 to ship a book now, at this price, I'm only breaking even)
As always, if you're an AUD subscriber, there's a discount code available to you in the Hall E premium forum that you can apply to this purchase as well.
As a further teaser, here are the TENTATIVE release dates of the eight books, along with their working titles.
Book One: Dark Recollections Release between October 31st, and November 12th.
Book Two: Alone No More Release between November 15th, and December 1st.
Book Three: Midnight Release on or about Christmas/end of December/start of January
Book Four: The Return Release around the beginning of February
Book Five: Wrath Release beginning of March
Book Six: In the Arms of Family Release the beginning of April
Book Seven: The Trinity Release the beginning of May
Book Eight: Cassie Release the beginning of June. But I might just wait until June 23rd. We'll see.
These books are edited for print, and contain some new content, as well as some of the previously premium only content. Reading these books will be a brand new experience for AUD fans, and I hope you are half as excited to read them, as I am to get them in your hands.
If folks have questions, I'll do my best to answer them.
