OK, so I waited and nobody else posted. I feel a little disloyal for acknowledging that there are other sites, but my previous fav is the one that steered me to AUD: Tales of the Zombie War. I won't leave a link, since I'm still a little bitter that the site operators appear to have given up on it as of late. That's cool because just in time I stumbled into AUD. Door closes, window opens.
Here's the deal. It is very uneven, quality wise, and there are long, long stretches in between new stories getting posted. The uneven quality is due to the fact that the stories are submitted by all kinds of folks out there. Some are real writers, and their stores kick ass. But, too often they’re kinda short, but still very strong offerings. Others...uh, how you say...meh. One cool aspect is you get lots of interpretations of how things would go down at the beginning as well as survival in the aftermath. The downside is some stories take incredible liberties with the generally accepted parameters of the modern zombie universe. A rare few have been thoroughly un-readable (and even dull, if that's possible). Others have been genuinely riveting and left me wanting more. Alas, those are often one-shot story tellers, and there's no next installment.
So bottom line, it's like a zombie fiction creative writing contest. And a mixed bag at that (which makes it sorta fun). It's a cool idea that, sadly, appears to be on life support currently. Unfortunately, there are lots of really cool stories buried in there that won't fully be appreciated if this site continues to languish. For what it's worth...
Zed's dead baby. Zed's dead.
